Unlock Privacy Policy
What the Unlock app collects, where it goes, and how you can delete it.
Unlock is an iPhone app by BeforeSunset Inc.
What we collect
Account details: your email address, your name, and a profile picture. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address and, from Google, your profile picture. Otherwise we create a generated picture for you.
What you write in Unlock: the goals you describe, your answers to the app's questions, and the plans, notes and checklists made for you or edited by you.
Location: if you allow it, your approximate position and the city, region and country it belongs to. We also keep your time zone and language.
Device and usage: which screens you open and what you tap, your device model and operating system version, and recordings of how you move through the app's screens (session replay). We use these to find problems and improve the app.
Notifications: a device token, if you allow notifications, so we can tell you when a goal is ready.
Purchases: whether you have a subscription and its status. Apple handles payment; we never see your card details.
How we use it
To make your plans. What you write, your answers, your city and country, and your language are used to ask you the right questions and to create your goal, plan, notes, checklist and cover picture.
To run your account. We use your email address to sign you in and to send you emails about your goals, such as when a goal is ready.
To send notifications you have allowed.
To keep the app working and improve it, using usage data and session recordings.
To manage your subscription.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
Unlock uses third-party AI services to write your questions, plans and notes. What you write is sent to them only to produce your content. We share information only with the services below, each for the job listed.
Google Gemini (AI) receives what you write, your answers, your goal, your city, country and language, to write the questions, plan, notes and cover picture.
TypeSafe (AI) receives what you write and your answers during goal setup, to decide which question to ask next.
Tavily receives search phrases made from your goal and its place, to find up-to-date information for your notes.
Google Places receives the names of places in your notes and the city or region they are in, to show place cards with photos.
Amplitude receives your email address, which identifies your account there, along with usage events, your device model and session recordings, to understand how the app is used and fix problems.
RevenueCat receives your account ID, your email address and your subscription status, to manage subscriptions.
Apple and Google receive sign-in details, and Apple a device token for notifications, to sign you in and deliver notifications.
Resend receives your email address and the goal details in the email, to send you emails.
Fly.io and Turso host the service and store your account and goal data. Cloudflare serves only the app's pictures.
We may also share information if the law requires it.
Where it is stored and how long we keep it
Your account and goals are stored on servers in the United States. We keep them while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your account and your goals right away; copies in backups are removed within 30 days. Usage data at Amplitude and subscription records at RevenueCat are kept under those services' own retention rules; email us if you want us to ask them to delete yours.
Your choices
Location: you can say no when asked, or turn it off later in your iPhone's Settings. Unlock still works; your plans are just less tailored to where you live.
Notifications: you can turn them off in your iPhone's Settings.
Your goals: you can edit them in the app.
Delete your account: in the app, open User Profile, then Edit Profile, then Delete Account. This deletes your account and your goals. You can also email us to ask for deletion.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can email us to ask for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it. We will answer within 30 days.
Children
Unlock is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child under 13 has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we will update this page and its date, and tell you in the app if the change is important.
